Henrik Normann & Team Salsaclave in association with EUROPAHØJSKOLEN invite dancers from EUROPA to participate in the first ever European Championships in Cuban Salsa. The 2010 European Championships are scheduled to the last week of the 4 week Salsacamp in Denmark. We invite ONE of the following Cuban salsa bands to play after the competition: Los Van Van, Charanga Habanera, Bamboleo or Manolito.

The event will take place on Friday July 30 at Europahøjskolen in Denmark (see address and travel information below). Entrance fee: 350 Danish Kroner (Competition and Live band). The doors open at 20.00.
THE EVENT IS FREE FOR THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE 4. WEEK OF THE SALSACAMP.

All couples who wish to participate in the competition should send a link to a You Tube clip (containing a minimum 2 minute video clip of the couple dancing improvised Cuban salsa) to the organizer Henrik Normann no later than May 1. 2010 (see details below). Henrik Normann will then select the 10 most convincing couples based on the You Tube presentations. No later than June 1 2010 the 10 couples will receive an official invitation to compete in Denmak on July 30 2010.
YOU CAN START SENDING LINKS TO YOU TUBE VIDEO CLIPS NOVEMBER 1 2009.

We invite the 10 selected couples to stay one night at the Salsacamp for free, including free meals and drinks during their stay. The competitors can furthermore expect a very dedicated audience (minimum 400 spectators). The Salsacamp is already all about Cuban salsa. We invite the best DJs from Europa and have a very beautiful location for the championships at Europahojskolen.

What is cuban salsa?
When referring to Cuban salsa we actually mean Cuban Casino, and this particular dancing style should be the fundamental basis for all the dancers during the competition, BUT the dancers are free to spice up the casino with other dances, for example son, chacha, salsa cabaret, contemporary, reggaeton, rumba, hip hop, kizomba and tango as long as it is evident that the casino is the foundation. We of course also accept PURE casino. We encourage the dancers to use a minimum of acrobatics, lifts and dips which normally don't work so well on the social dance floor. Salsa IS mostly a social dance!

Who can participate?
All dancers from Europa holding valid social security cards from a European country can participate. The man and the woman in the couple should have social security cards from THE SAME country. In other words it is NOT allowed for a mixed Swedish/French couple to join the competition. Only Swedish/Swedish, French/French etc.

How will the competition take place?
The 10 couples will be judged by a very skilled team of five judges. The identity of the judges will be revealed later when all agreements have been made. The 10 couples will be judged according to the following qualities: Originality, technicality, musical interpretation and stage performance.
BEFORE THE COMPETITIONS all 10 couples must prepare a two and a half minute choreography to a Cuban salsa song of their own choice. In the first part of the competition, this choreography will be performed in front of the audience at the championships. In the second part of the competition the couples will dance to Cuban salsa music chosen by others. Here they will also be judged on their ability to improvise.
In short: A choreographed show AND improvised dancing.

Where do the championships take place?
The Salsacamp and the championships take place at the beautifully located Europahøjskole in Denmark. For detailed travel information follow THIS LINK
